MYRNA D. SCHLEGELA/A.W.A.R.E SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Purpose Statement
Recognize and support students
seeking higher education degrees who aspire to conduct research, and/or treat
and care for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, or related dementias, and
provide support to their families and caregivers.
Amount of
Award
Minimum $2000.
Awarded funds shall be sent
directly to the recipient’s educational institution for the purpose of paying
only for tuition, books and fees.

Funds
Myrna and Robert Schlegel
established this scholarship through generous gifts to the Alzheimer’s
Association, Greater Dallas Chapter, a non-profit organization.
Eligibility Criteria
·
An undergraduate recipient must be enrolled as a full-time student
in an accredited Texas institution of higher education.
·
Recipient must be pursuing a degree in a helping/service
profession (nursing, medical school, social work, psychology, health care
administration) with a focus on gerontology.
·
Recipients must demonstrate passion for a career in the care,
research, or treatment focusing on the areas of gerontology, Alzheimer’s, or
related dementias.
·
Undergraduate recipients must have completed 30-credit hours
toward his/her degree and maintained a 3.2 grade point average.
·
Graduate recipients must show acceptance into an appropriate
program or a transcript of the first semester’s work.
Application Process
·
Applicants should provide a one page, double-spaced statement of how
the scholarship would be beneficial to their aspiration of working in the area
of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
·
Include name, address, telephone and email.
·
Provide a faculty reference with contact information.
Applications that do not include all of the above information will
not be considered.
Recipient
Requirement
After completion of a semester’s work, scholarship recipients will
report to A.W.A.R.E. on the use of the fund and how receiving the scholarship
assisted with their degree objective(s).
