UT Tyler Nursing on Google +

Google + (kind of like Facebook) has a really cool feature called "Hangouts". By using the Hangouts with Extras you can do:

• Up to 6 video chats (I haven't had a problem with echo feedback, yet)
• chat window
• whiteboard
• edit documents together by importing them in and then exporting them out
• call people on the phone through the hangout to add them to the conversation
• share your screen

I have tested it out some and from what I can tell this is a valuable tool for all of us. We have a UT Tyler Nursing page setup here: https://plus.google.com/105425859458521158855

1. Follow that link and click the red button that says Join Google +.
2. If you already have a Google account (YouTube, Google or gmail) then go ahead and sign in. If not, press the red button in the top right hand corner to sign up.
3. Add The University of Texas at Tyler Nursing Programs to your circle.

When you are in and on our homepage you will see "Have fun with all your circles using your live webcam Start Hangout". Select the circles or people you want to share with (they have to have a Google account). There are two kinds of hangouts. If you just select the green button you won't have all the features. Select "Try Hangouts with Extras" below the green button.
I would love to try this out with a group. So, once I get enough members in the UT Tyler Nursing circle I'll schedule some times where we can all practice. It will be fun!
